Ive been a crafting ... And I feel good!! I have been very busy with work and have not had a lot of time to potter around.
Last Friday a friend at work taught me how to crochet, well two stitches anyway. I was so excited!! I have practiced and now I would like to make something. I think I need to learn a few more stitches for what I want to make though. I posted a picture a few posts back of some bright coloured little monsters, I want to make them! Will have to consult my friend, the crochet expert.
I made the cutest sewing machine cover tonight!! I found the pattern on a blog I read (no idea which one though) and have been wanting to make it for a while.
I even sewed on a felt owl on it make it a bit fancy. Here is what it looks like...
I am really pleased with it and it beats the crappy plastic, dust marked cover I have had ever since I got my sewing machine 20 years ago. I think my mother in law will want one after she sees it.
I have been pottering away when I have the urge to craft. I made two taggie blankets a week or so back. I made a big one (30cm x 30cm) and small triangle one. I am pleased with how they look, they are soooo cute!! I think my friend will like them.
I am going to make a boy one for another friend from work whose wife is having a boy at the end of the month.
On Saturday Andy and I were heading out to a friends birthday drinkies. Continuing with my homemade presents I decided to do some baking for her. I purchased a funky dotty biscuit tin from The Warehouse and made about 5 or 6 different types of biscuits (making either 1/4 or 1/3 of a recipe). I assembled them in the tin using baking paper to group the different types together. I also made some russian fudge and coconut ice and baged it up. To make it look a bit funky I made little tags with the names of each food item and stamped it.
I was so pleased with the way it turned out and my friend told me it was her favourite present!! I will most definately be doing this again. It was rather time consuming however it looked great and was a novel present.
Afgans dipped in milk chocolate, Chunky Choc Chip bickies, Jam Jams and Maori Kisses. Yes you read right, Maori Kisses!!
They were lovely biscuits, a chocolate biscuit recipe with walnuts, ginger and chopped dates with a caramel icing centre. I dont know if I like the name very much.
My husband is going to Ireland for close to two weeks. I am pretty sure I will get a fair bit of crafting done in that time.
The next on the list is making the boy taggie blanket, tunic dress (must buy the pattern first), a handbag (have the best pattern off a blog I read) and snap top purse.
I am really enjoying sewing and am liking that I am having a creative outlet. Something I have always enjoyed but have not done for so long.
I few weeks back I purchased the most funky silicone mould...
I have a bit of a bug, insect thing theme going on for a baby shower I am holding this weekend. I might have to make something using these super cute things!!!
Anyway, I think I will be posting more on here over the next few weeks or so with Andy going away. I am not looking forward to it. I think I am going to get lonely and maybe a little bit scared. I am so used to having someone around and have not had a night at home by myself since we moved in together a year and a half ago. I will just have to suck it up and deal with it. It is going to be a good time to catch up with a few friends and I am going to go and hang out with my family as well.
In a way I am looking forward to the 'me' time but am also aware of the other stuff. Oh well, I may suprise myself.
